Approved Snacks

SNACKS

The children provide snacks for each day. Parents will be assigned days on which it will be your child’s turn to provide a NUTRITIOUS snack for the class. One of these dates will be your child’s birthday, (or as close as we can schedule it to their class days), or an “unbirthday” celebration for the child that has a summer birthday. State law requires that ALL snacks meet the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for nourishment. Please refer to the snack suggestions on the following page.

NOTE PLEASE

CAKE and CUPCAKES are NOT considered nutritious and are very difficult to clean up afterwards. We can no longer serve cake. Try frosted muffins, cookies, or bar deserts for birthdays. Also let your child help pick something they would like to eat especially on this day. Sometimes for birthdays parents send in pizzas or even send frozen or homemade pizzas to cook in our ovens here in the Preschool. Trail mixes, fresh fruits, fresh veggies, ice cream treats are always enjoyed. Get creative with healthy snacks. A gallon of milk (white or chocolate) or 100% juice or some of each are necessary to allow the children as much as they would like to drink. Not all children choose to drink either, so we will offer water to the children also. If we do not use all of the milk or juice you supply we will keep it and serve it another time. Your reminder will let you know if we are low on either.

If your child has a special diet need or allergy that requires specific guidelines please give a written list of those requirements or have a doctors write a note for us to use as a reference as to what to do if they have an allergic reaction.

If you choose to send a special treat or gift bag for the children to take home with them as a birthday treat, please give it to the teachers to pass out at the end of the day.

You will receive reminder notes in your child’s bag on the session before your snack date with the number of items and servings that you will need to send in. If you are unable to bring snack on your scheduled date please advise us and we will try to find another date for you. If you forget you may be asked to bring snack on another date or bring an item to leave in our cupboards for others that may forget or for days that we need to supplement the snack that was sent in.

Fruits and veggies need to be washed and prepared for use!

NOTE: Please do not send your child to school with gum or candy in their mouth, pocket or school bag. We will ask them to spit it out.

NOTE: If you make homemade snacks please include the recipe. This is necessary for us to be able to track and share with a parent if an allergy shows up.

Note: Please read labels to ensure that you are sending in enough of the snack for each child to have the correct portions.
